"What the-" Johnny woke up abruptly to the sound of his phone buzzing obnoxiously upon the end table. He knew he should have put it on silent, and he considered turning it off all together even though that would have been a very foolish idea. Laying there on his stomach where his face had been mostly buried into the pillow, squinting eyes located the damned thing as he tiredly reached for it.
"Queen B" flashed on the screen, and no, the "B" didn't stand for "Bee".
Murmuring a curse under his breath, he rolled over as he brought the phone to his ear to answer with a groggy, "Yeah?"
"They didn't find a boat." Oh, Danica sounded so happy.
Maybe he was still half asleep, but he truly couldn't understand why this was so dire of a situation. Agents had gone rogue before, and it was pretty clear to him that Marie really didn't know what was going on with her sister. Why this heavy persistence?
Johnny ran a hand over his face, trying to wake up more as he sat up and swung his legs over the edge of the bed. He already knew what was coming, and he didn't like it. At all.
"I'm only giving you one more day."
"One more, are you kidding me? I don't think she knows anything at all anyway."
"She's the only connection we have right now."
Fingers pinched the bridge of his nose. "Haven't you tried their trackers?" He knew that was a stupid question, but he actually wasn't anticipating the answer he got regardless.
"Of course we did," she snapped at him. "They've either managed to remove them or they're blocking the signal."
That actually took him a little by surprise. If Bishop and Houston had done either of those things...how did they manage it? And which version of the tracker did they possess? A hand rose to his chest, rubbing the spot near his heart before Danica was talking again.
"One more day, then I'm sending Roan in. He'll get the answers we need because this is clearly not working."
So, Danica was going to basically harm and possibly kill an innocent woman because she couldn't track down two agents? Two men she was supposed to be keeping an eye on? No, he didn't like this at all, and he really didn't know what he was going to do about.
"Are you listening Cordello?"
Johnny blinked, fully awake now. "Yeah. Yes, understood."
Danica didn't even bother saying goodbye as she hung up the phone, and he was left sitting there staring at the lit up screen.
Well, fuck.
Getting up and showering, Johnny dressed himself in jeans this time and a comfortable, dark red button down in lieu of the usual suit. He'd been told three days before, he had told Marie she had to lay low for just a couple, so if he couldn't get anything else from her today...he had a choice to make. There was something about this Bishop situation that was making him think, and he knew he shouldn't be wondering about it.
But, had there been a reason Gamble defected?
Instead of going out into the hall, Johnny approached the door between their rooms and knocked a few times while glancing down at his watch. It was nearing 9:00 in the morning, so she'd have to be up already, right? Honestly, he was surprised he had even slept as long he did.
"Hey, Marie...are you up?"
