Maybe he shouldn't have that stupid, smug look on his face...but of course he did, and of course he made sure Scott saw it. He knew this was only because Emma didn't see him every day, but still, he was going to milk it up as much as possible.
'Daddio gets hugs whenever he wants, you don't.'
"That's right, I don't," he drawled in a tease, pulling the girl in for another hug as he made a face at Scotty over her shoulder that basically said, "Ha haaaaaaaa!" He chuckled, though, when she finally relented and went to her father, and he stood up to his full height to watch them.
Silently, he climbed back into the Camaro but noted the fact that they were whispering to each other. Like, they were clearly making it look like a conspiracy and he wasn't invited to join in on it. It got worse after the two got into the car and looked at him like that.
Turning in his seat, his attention flickered between the two, looking slightly nervous. This was weird. "What're you- what's with the creepy looks?"

Scott merely grinned wider, the corners of his eyes crinkling as he looked at Nate, and Emma just smiled brightly. Leaning forward so she was between the two seats slightly. “To the grocery store, please, Mr. Driver.” She reached forward and patted Nate on the shoulder, and it was Scotty’s turn laugh as he reached backward to give her a fist pump before she settled back in her seat.
Scotty looked at Nate expectantly then, raising his brows. “You heard the lady, grocery store!” He waved his hand for Nate to get a move on. “We ain’t got all night!” Emma’s sounded from the back. And Scotty hooked his thumb towards the back, to signal that Nate better listen to her.
He was certainly grinning like the cheshire cat on the inside at the moment, but this was exactly the sort of distraction Nate needed to get his mind off of the day he had had. And Emma was the perfect partner in crime. She’d see to it that Nate left the Williams Casa with a smile on his face.
Emma started in on idle chatter about what she’d learned in school that day, new things happening with her friends. Which of course Scotty had things to say about. Once they got to the store, he was quick to open his door and then help Emma out. Lifting her on out before planting her feet on the ground. “Alright, how we wanna do this, divide and conquer?” Scotty asked her. She tapped her chin and gave it a moment thought.
“Probably best, you do freezer section.” She pointed at him. “Uncle Nate and I get the other goods.”
“Why do I get the freezer section?” Scotty asked with a slight whine.
“Because I’m smaller and get cold faster!” Emma informed him. Scotty couldn’t argue with her there.
“Alright alright, you got a point. Show Uncle Nate the ropes eh?” He told her, ruffling her hair slightly. “You got it Daddio! C’mon Uncle Nate, we gotta go huntin,” Emma called over to Nate after Saluting Scotty, and then hurried over to his side before taking his hand and tugging him towards the store. Scotty was tight lipped as he looked at the pair, but amusement was clear in his eyes.
Oh boy! It was a code cheer-up. It wasn’t every day that happened! And it was uncle Nate’s first! Emma was actually excited about it, and it wasn’t because of the ice cream she knew Daddio would be getting. The Williams practically had Nate prisoner at the moment, and the seven-year-old was determined to get the good stuff, and make sure Uncle Nate was as cheered up as he could get.
Knowing Daddio was getting the basket, Emma didn’t bother as she dragged Nate. Which was amusing considering how much bigger he was compared to her. “Okay, so listen, the rules are there are no rules,” She began, looking up Uncle Nate. Her tone and face indicated he should be taking this serious. “We’re getting fave’s alright, that means the favorite of anything. What’s your favorite dinner?” She asked him.
'To the grocery store, please, Mr. Driver.' 'You heard the lady, grocery store!' 'We ain’t got all night!'
"Whoa, hey...alright there, Ms. Daisy." Nate hadn't the slightest idea as to what these two weirdos were up to, but he obliged their strange request- or more like demand really.
Should he be worried?
Still, he was already forgetting everything that had been bothering him that day as they simply chatted during the drive. Soon enough, he was pulling them into a spot, and Emma was basically dragging him into the store where he threw Scotty a confused look.
'Okay, so listen, the rules are there are no rules.'
"No rules, huh?" he echoed as they walked down the aisles. When he looked down to her, he noted the serious look while she asked what his favorite dinner was. Without completely realizing it, his pace had slowed a little, and he didn't know how to answer.
Jambalaya is what he nearly said, but not because he knew how to make it or any particular restaurant did. A particular person always did and he hadn't had it in over a year. For obvious reasons.
"Uh..." Blinking, he tried to think fast on his feet. "A good ribeye, mashed potatoes, and green beans." Nate paused, looking contemplative. "Is your daddy buyin'? Cause, if so, then a real good cut of steak."
Emma looked up at him patiently as he figured out what to tell her. She knew it could be hard to pick your favorite dinner, especially if you were like her and had several. The moment he told her it was steak she grinned. "Daddio's buyin', steak it is!" She said. "Hey! if you're nice, maybe he'll let you wear his hat or apron! Daddio really likes to grill." Emma informed Nate, tugging him along as she changed their course to the vegetable section.
She found one of the rolls of plastic bags and released Nate's hand, skipping over to tear it off before she stood on her tiptoes at the mountain of potatoes waiting for them. "Okay, you gotta pick the big fat ones, Daddy says they're the best for mashed tato's." Emma pointed. "I'll hold the bag." She told him since she was a little on the shorter size for grabbing potatoes at random. once they did that she handed Nate the full baggy before hunting down the green beans. She of course, repeated the process and made him carry them before she headed back towards the other aisles.
"Okay, next questions, what's your favorite Candy and drink?" She asked. Clearly a lady on a mission.

Scotty certainly had the drinks covered, they just weren't kid friendly. The beer bottles clinked together in the cart as he loaded the upper part of it where the kids usually sat with ice-cream of different varieties. Whistling as he went and wondering just how Nate was fairing with Emma dragging him all over the store.
He was certainly looking forward to seeing the look on his friends face, and once he was out of the freezer section with the goods, he stared glancing down aisles as he passed them until he found Nate and Emma. "Do you got the stuffs? What're we makin?" He asked. "Uncle Nate likes Steak." Emma informed him, moving towards the basket with her arms full of Candy. "Of course he likes Steak," Scotty commented. I'm buying, that's why... He thought, but didn't say it. Nate would certainly see it across his face though what he was thinking. Still, Scott kept that grin on his face, which wasn't so hard to do with Emma taking her job so seriously.
"Okay so what, we gotta go get meat and what else?" He asked doing an inventory check. "Did you get the popcorn?" Emma asked. "Aaaaah popcorn, can't forget that!"
Steak it is, definitely since Scotty was buying. He was grinning about that.
Once more, she was pulling him along through the store and he was suddenly having to choose potatoes. He goofed around, purposely picking out the tiniest ones to argue that they were perfect just to get a giggle out of her, or finding the funny-shaped ones before they were gathering the green beans.
"Candy and drink? Hmm..." He contemplated this as they wandered the aisles again. "I like a good Pepsi, but candy? I don't know, what's your favorite?" That was when Scott found them, and his daughter was informing him of Uncle Nate's favorite food.

Of course, he was grinning like that. Scotty was going to be buying him a steak. If the roles were reversed, Scott would have given him the same exact look. He was lucky it was an operation cheer-up, or he could have told him he could have a hot dog.
Scott made a face at him as he wandered over to where they kept the popcorn and threw a box of the extra movie buttered popcorn into the cart and then gripped the handlebar again. Turning the cart around so he could head back the way he came, he threw a arched brow at both Emma and Nate. "Hurry up and get the candy squirt, we got stuff to do." He said sounding impatient. Emma didn't need any further nudging as she all but ran down the isle to where they kept her favorite candy, and she came running back. Tossing the large bag of sour patch kids into the cart. "Uncle Nate likes pepsi, so we gotta get that." She exclaimed, making a beeline for the end of the isle.
Scotty looked over at Nate, and motioned for him to go after her. "What're you waiting for? The lady waits for no one!" He motioned with a hand just as Emma darted around the corner. Scotty knew she wouldn't run off to far, having known better, and that she was likely waiting for Nate around the corner.
He grinned quietly to himself before he started pushing to cart back to the meat section where he could pick out the steaks for dinner. If it was what Nate wanted, then he'd get only the best. Once the meat and everything else was picked up, Scotty would wait by the registers for his child and man child and then, proceed to check out.
