Beep...beep...beep the sound of the heart monitor sounded in the otherwise quiet room. Sunlight was coming through the crack between the drawn curtains, and the faint sound of Marnie’s breathing could be heard. She’d been in the hospital for two days so far. After having the literal snot beat out of her by her now ex boyfriend. They’d wanted to keep her over night for observation, her trachea had nearly been crushed, making it impossible for her to answer the police’s questions the first day, but aside from that she’d slept most of it from the pain meds they’d given her.
Bruising covered her whole face, making her look almost unrecognizable from the swelling that by now had thankfully gone down. She had two black eyes, and her nose had been broke. Thankfully the doctors were able to reset it and her lip bottom lip was split. She had purple bruising on her neck from where Travis had strangled her, and both of her wrists were bruised from trying to fight Travis off. Defensive wounds scattered her arms and her ribs on one side were bruised from where she’d fallen on her coffee table. Aside from the other various bruises Travis had given her, Marnie thankfully hadn’t broken anything else.
If it hadn’t been for that Neighbor, she was positive she’d be dead right about now.
Her eyes slowly flickered open, and she winced. Still feeling the dull ache from the meds she was on, as she glanced around the room. She could see flowers on one of the tables as well as some cards. Her eyes couldn’t focus to see what they said, and she drifted her eyes closed again. Hearing faint murmuring out in the hall, as she recalled what had happened. An uneasy feeling settled around her, as well as that fear that Travis might come back. He’d been so angry…
Rex popped into her mind and her alarm heightened, quickly scrambling for her phone. She saw it on the bedside table and she had to stretch for it, nearly tumbling out of the bed. She gritted her teeth at the soreness in her arm but managed to reach it. Ignoring the calls and missed text from work at the moment, she quickly texted Elena, asking if she could check on her bunny. Poor baby was probably terrified at what happened.
The door to her room suddenly opened, and Marie froze, raising her head to who had come in, to see it was a nurse. “Oh good your awake!” She said rather chipperly, moving to open the curtains. She started rattling off to Marnie that the police wanted to ask her questions if she was up for it, and that she had a visitor. Her first thought was that it was her brother, Rhett, but she remembered he was in Europe on business. Her next thought was it was her parents, but if Vincent Gardner had wanted to see her, he’d already be in the room. She wondered idly who it could be. “O-okay,” Her voice was raspy and sore. Sounding like she’d smoked a six-pack a day for her entire life. “Can I have some water?” She asked, making a face at the sound. “Sure thang!” Nurse chippy said. She checked her vitals real quick and asked Marnie how her pain levels were before she left the room.
Marnie sat up a bit, placing the pillows more behind her back, while she waited for the police and her visitor to come in.
