Kellan clearly could have stopped the short woman, but Miss Gardner's reaction to her let him know immediately that Elena meant no harm. Not outright, that is. So, he simply let her through before shutting the door behind her; resuming his post against the wall.
Quietly, he watched the conversation again, noting subtle things of each person. It was a habit he always had and wasn't about to quit any time soon, considering it often helped with his job. But he noted the slight waver in Elena's voice when she got a good look at Marina's face. He realized the detective liked to talk with his hands a lot, and both he and the woman had somewhat similar accents, so they were likely from the east coast. He had noticed the subtle changes on Miss Gardner's face, like she was suddenly realizing how dire the situation really was.
He appeared perplexed though, when she drew the rabbit out of the carrier, and he met Scott's look with a bit of confusion, but as always, continued to keep silent.

The feisty little latina was exactly what Marnie had needed to feel better. She just hadn’t realized that it was what she needed until Elena had actually arrived, and she felt suddenly very grateful for her best friend. It was probably a good thing Mateo was on a playdate. Marnie didn’t want him to see her like this, if only for his flurry of questions he’d probably have and there was really no way to put it into a child-like explanation that wouldn’t frighten him.
Her dark eyes glanced up to Elena as she settled in with Rex on her chest. Her friend's question and threat made a brief flicker of a smile appear on her face, but there was nothing to smile about. She slowly nodded in answer. She was telling herself there was nothing to feel shame over, but she certainly had felt helpless in that situation. It was a feeling she never wanted to experience again, and she suddenly wanted to go home, even knowing she couldn’t exactly go back there either. There was more to this narrative than met the eye, and it made her uneasy and angry.
She ran a hand through Rex’s fur to calm herself down. Bending her head down slightly as he raised his. His little nose wiggling like crazy as he sniffed at her, before their noses touched and he lightly pressed his head into her forehead. A deep breath came from her as she took comfort in her pet, holding him a closer, as she let him ease some of her anxiety.
Elena’s question brought Marnie’s head back up, and her eyes fell on the detective, before they glanced at Elena. “He..tried to kill me El. It’s serious. I can’t go home.” She put in layman's terms as her voice slightly cracked. “But they’re going to catch him.” She added with a small smile.

Elena’s hand was small against his own, something Scotty never really paid attention to in a woman, but he did with this one, and he couldn't help that his smile turned more into a grin as she smirked at him. He released her hand then and looked at Marnie as Elena asked that question. He was glad Ms. Gardner had some moral support in her friend. Especially one that was already showing her spunk and hadn’t even been in the room for five minutes. She’d need it. It’d be a good distraction.
“Absolutely.” Scotty was quick to add as Marnie said they were going to catch Pembrooke. Scotty was going to see to it personally too. “We’re going to get to the bottom of this, and then everything can return to normal.” Scotty told them confidently. Though, how much of “normal” was going to be left for Marnie was up for debate. It would take some time to recover, but she’d make it through this. He was sure of it with a friend like Elena Morales. Scotty’s “people radar” was never really wrong, and Elena was clear in the green.
“We’re going to put Marnie somewhere safe and she’ll be looked after until we find him. I bet she could use some help in packing a bag and getting some of her things too.” He pointed out. Marnie had mentioned a condo, but he wasn’t so sure if it would have everything she needed. “She’d gonna need things for the uh- Bun Bun too.” He waved a finger at the bunny. He glanced up at Marnie for confirmation, and she slowly nodded. “I will yeah.” she murmured. Scotty was trying to be consider it and make it so she didn’t have to talk much. “We’ll have an officer drop by and get some of your things then.” He told her. That is...Unless a certain friend didn’t mind doing it for her. In which case…
It’d be inconsiderate and unsafe to send her back there by herself with a homicidal jerk on the lose now wouldn’t? Even if she’d already been there once to get El Senior Bun bun.

Elena and Marnie were a good balance, perhaps why they were such good friends. Whereas she could be a bit too headstrong and impulsive at times, Marnie had a calmer air about her, something Elena nearly fed off of sometimes. Her life felt like a whirlwind sometimes, and her friend kept her grounded. But right now, El realized that she needed to be the calm one, the strong foundation for once.
'He...tried to kill me, El. It's serious. I can't go home.'
That made her stomach plummet, and she was both angry and upset at the same time. "Oh my god," she breathed, trying not to freak out and ignore the sudden need to become a vengeful vigilante. "Do you need somewhere to stay?" She wasn't sure if the cops were setting her up somewhere or if her rich daddy would have some place for her. Elena didn't want Mateo to see Marnie like this, but that was the least of her concerns.
The detectives surety made her feel a little bit better, but not entirely. There was always going to be that doubt until this whole thing was resolved, and she could only imagine how Marina was feeling.
'We'll have an officer drop by and get some of your things then.'
Elena was already waving him off. "No, no, I got it. I can be in and out," she said with a snap of her fingers. It was absurd to send a stranger who wouldn't really know what Marnie needed. After giving the detective a very certain I got this look, she regarded her friend with a softer expression. "Do you need anything in particular? Can I bring you anything else?"
