Name :: Bishara Grace Mulder AKA "Brianna" AKA "B"
Birthday :: December 22nd
Age :: 33
HEIGHT :: 5'9
WEIGHT :: ?
EYE COLOR :: Brown
HAIR COLOR :: Black
Hometown :: Los Angeles
Occupation :: Medical Examiner
Notable Markings: none she is flawless
Appearance: A tall, statuesque African-American woman with rich, dark skin, hair, and eyes. Her mother was a first generation immigrant from Kenya, which shows, and leads to her being asked "where are you from" often. She dresses elegantly but simply, although her clothes are often hidden by her lab coat and other PPE. She keeps her hair cut short because she hates when it is in the way.
Personality: Calm and calming. It takes a major emergency to shake Brianna's well-grounded demeanor. Even when the officers on a case are running at 99 mph, or family members are agitated and upset about a 'patient' of hers, she won't allow herself to be carried off. Instead, she calmly brings them back to Earth and helps them hear what the dead have to say.
She has a deep compassion for her 'patients' and treats them as such; she won't allow any disrespect for the dead in her Morgue. Detectives who make comments about a 'floater' or 'crispy critter' will be immediately kicked out with no answers and left with only the written file to work with. The victims that make their way to her are people first and foremost.
Outside of work she keeps up on recent medical journals and enjoys science podcasts. Sweets are her guilty pleasure, especially ice-cream. She is also a sucker for cliché romances and Hallmark movies, although she would never admit this. She just likes a happy ending, and wishes more people got them.
She is quiet about herself, her interests, her history, her family, and her real name, and won't bring them up unless specifically asked.
Background:
Bishara Grace Mulder is the daughter of a Doctors Without Borders doctor and one of his former patients. Dashawn and Kioni met in Kenya, working together during an outbreak in a small community. When she too fell ill, he took special care of her, and the two fell in love. (They also LOVE telling this story!)
The two returned to LA when Kioni was pregnant, so that they could give their child a more stable childhood. They doted on their daughter from day one, and made sure to provide everything they could think of for her enrichment and growth.
As a child, Bishara began going by Brianna when teachers and students couldn't get her real name right. That was the trend all the way til high school--trying to be just like everyone else, to avoid making waves. If she kept her head down and her nose in a book, she wouldn't have to deal with as much trouble. It wasn't until her undergrad when she went to a historically Black college and realized that she could breathe a little more easily. It was one of the happiest times of her life.
Still, she poured herself into her studies, all the way up through medical school and additional training as a Pathologist. Learning has always been her passion--she would like to learn everything she can about everything! She started to dress how she wanted and wear her hair how she wanted, but she still felt that to succeed in the medical community, she needed to be as bland and normal as possible.
The position at LAPD is her second official posting--she served in Las Vegas as assistant ME for five years before receiving this position. She still doesn't go by her birth name, because she doesn't want to deal with the hassle of teaching it to people. She just assumes it is easier this way.
