Name: Amala Heydari
Birthday:: October 30th
Age:: 30
HEIGHT :: 5'7
WEIGHT :: 121 lbs.
EYE COLOR :: Brown
HAIR COLOR :: Brown
Hometown :: Eugene, Oregon
Occupation :: Psychologist and Profiler
Notable Markings: Scar on her left hip from a gunshot graze.
Appearance:
A woman of mixed Iranian-American heritage. Her dark hair is naturally inclined to curls. She wears it up when she wants to look stern, and down when she wants to appear more approachable. Her thick brows and resting bitch face make her seem harsher than she likes. She is slightly above average height, which she emphasizes with sensible looking heels most days. She prefers pants to skirts.
Personality:
Amala is the most social misanthropist you'll meet. She loves talking to people, understanding their motives, and making them feel comforted and understood even if she doesn't actually feel sympathy for them. She believes most people have a dark side that is simply waiting for the right trigger. She's also a strong believer that to beat a terrorist, you have to think like a terrorist, and that often means accepting collateral damage.
Problem is, she's not as callous as she'd like to believe. She hates being left in the dark, and wants the full truth of any situation before making a decision. Thanks to her research into body language and expressions (an extension of the work don by Dr. Cal Lightman) she is well aware when people are hiding things. Problem is, she can't tell what they're hiding unless she pushes the limits and investigates. She often comes off as erratic and abrasive to those that don't know her, because she'll do things purely to get a reaction.
Background:
Amala Heydari is a second generation immigrant (her mother immigrated during the Iranian revolution), whose parents pushed her to excel at everything. Until six years ago, she had lived in the same neighborhood since birth. Originally this was in the home of her father’s family including her paternal grandmother and aunt. In addition to various extended family members who have stayed with the household at times, the immediate family includes three brothers, two sisters, and both parents. At one point, there were more than a dozen family members in the home.
Amala learned a lot about body language and psychology from living with that many people--but it's also the reason she swears up and down that she'll never have children. She professes to love living in a quiet studio apartment where no one can bother her. (She is fantastic with children despite her best attempts not to be. She just can't ignore a crying child.)
While her parents wanted her to be a more traditional doctor, Amala went for Psychology right away, assuring her parents that she could make money doing that and be just as well respected in a social science. She excelled, getting scholarships for her masters, and a coveted doctoral position at Harvard. The FBI recruited her as a profiler during her doctorate, which she insisted on finishing out She was only 25.
After working on her third case with the FBI, a terrorist threat against the capitol building, Amala was tapped for ACIS. She didn't find out until after taking the position that her predecessor in the role had died of an abrupt heart attack. She had to jump in with both feet--the old files and photographs weren't even cleaned out of "her" office from Collins before she stepped in.
She managed to do well despite her rough beginnings, and is now a well known and respected member of ACIS.
Skills:
- Reading emotions, even hidden ones
- Knowing when she is being lied to
- Getting a rise out of people
- Can handle a variety of weapons--she gets agents to teach her in her free time
