'Why are you wanting to transfer now?'
'Ortega is so close to getting the location, it might be too late to bring another handler up to speed.'
'I'll let you know.'
The day after his meeting with Steph, Jin had gone to the captain to discuss being pulled from the case. He planned to confess that he had gotten too close, that it was impeding on doing his job properly. With every step he took to Cordova's office, the harder it became. Jin Reigns was an honorable man, he played by the books, and he was a damn good cop...
But he chickened out. He tried to get removed without completely explaining why and it had been a disaster. The captain looked at him like he had three heads.
'I'll let you know,' she said, and it echoed over and over in his mind for the next week. When he inquired about the transfer again, he couldn't get a straight answer on it, only told to continue to do the job in the meantime.
And the next meetup with Steph was supposed to happen tonight.
Jin was restless, he was anxious. He knew she was upset, she probably felt betrayed but he didn't know what else to do. Yet, did he really have a choice in the matter now? He had to swallow his morals, his feelings, and just ensure she got out of this alive. Everything was her choice to make, and he had to respect it.
Even if it killed him inside.
Not his usual calm self, Jin was pacing that small motel room with its single lamp barely illuminating it. And all he could do was wait. It had been a few days since he had been able to see her from his normal safe distance and he feared the worst.
Was she still able to keep Kalashnik complacent for now? Would she show?
